Summer Thunder Cruise-In 2009 will be held on Saturday, July 25th from 2:00
pm to 7:00 pm (Rain Date: Sunday, July 26, 2009 Noon to 4 pm).

Franklin Park, the official home of the Summer Thunder Cruise-In in We’re looking forward to exceeding 2008’s record of 750+ cars – let’s see if we can make the 1,000 mark!!! Thousands of people, and tons of fun! Don’t miss it in 2009! YOU can make our event even better – we’d love to see you there!
Here’s what happened at last year’s event: Summer Thunder Cruise-In’s 2008 event: Whew! What a day August 2nd turned out to be! Living up to it’s name, the early morning of the 2008 Summer Thunder Cruise-In started off with a little bit of rain and thunder, but cleared just in time for a dry, beautiful, hot summer day! Over 750 participants cruised in to show their pride and joy as the day grew brighter and warmer by the hour! Proud car enthusiasts, owners of everything from hot rods to motorcycles to trucks to vintage beauties – rolled in with their prize possessions ready to share their stories and have a great time. ASE brought their NASCAR Craftsman truck and hauler, which “wowed” every onlooker and passerby. Participants and spectators were entertained by the music of Animal's Planet who played all day long to the pleasure of the crowd. Folks enjoyed Animal’s Planet’s classic rock and blues band style music throughout the event! Karen Monroe , official Summer Thunder Cruise-In photographer, took over 250 pictures of the event and has photos available for purchase on her website at www.shoot4fun.smugmug.com. Be sure to visit the website – I’m sure your vehicle is there! WJFK 106.7 FM was Summer Thunder Cruise-In’s broadcast partner, featuring the Pit Crew of IN THE PITS- Racing Radio. The Pit Crew is part of WJFK’s “live line-up” and were the official emcees of the event. Larry O and Bob Steele have hosted the event for the last 6 years, while Hall of Fame drag racer, Johnny Rocca joined the fun once again this year after enjoying last year’s event so much! This year the entire broadcast crew came to help the cruise-in hit its target of raising as much money as possible to benefit The Petty Family’s- Victory Junction Gang Camp. In addition to Bob, Johnny and Larry, Sprint Cup reporter Kevin O’Rourke, Brian and Ryan Downey, M-Diddy and Indiana Dave Reininger interacted with those in attendance. The crowd enjoyed meeting Dirt Racing expert, Jason Smith, who came with the Pit Crew from WJFK. It was great – from beginning to end - Cruisers brought their pride and joy to Franklin Park, found a spot in one of the ball fields and began to enjoy each others’ stories, while envying paint jobs, chrome wheels and fancy fixings! There were several vendors this year – including a marketplace for the ladies and vendor row for the car aficionados Just as importantly, there were several food vendors serving up everything from hamburgers to BBQ to funnel cakes and ice cream! Bringing the evening to a close, thunderous clouds approached as the Pit Crew announced a close to the evening. But what better way to end to the sounds of thunder for the best Summer Thunder Cruise-In yet! Our special thanks to everyone for your generous donations. The Victory Junction Gang Camp will be ever so grateful for your generosity!
