Here’s what happened at last year’s event:
Summer Thunder Cruise-In’s 2010 event:
Our July 31st 2010 Summer Thunder Cruise-In turned out to be bigger and better than ever! As our volunteers began preparations for the event, car enthusiasts began to enter the park, wanting to be the first to arrive. Over 800 participants cruised in to show their pride and joy as the day grew brighter and warmer by the hour! And warm is a bit of an understatement as temperatures rose to over 90° with a warm, seemingly tropical breeze all day long.
Proud car enthusiasts, owners of everything from hot rods to motorcycles to trucks to vintage beauties – rolled in with their prize possessions ready to share their stories and have a great time. Participants and spectators were entertained by the music of DJs Larry and Bob who rocked the world of all those present!
Excitement was brewing with the drawing of the 24 ft. enclosed trailer and a vacation cruise for two to a destination of the winner’s choice. Don’t miss out on your chance to win at this year’s event!
WJFK 106.7 FM, The Fan, was Summer Thunder Cruise-In’s broadcast partner, featuring the Pit Crew of IN THE PITS- Racing Radio. The Pit Crew is part of WJFK’s “live line-up” and were the official emcees of the event. Larry O and Bob Steele have hosted the event for the last 7 years, while Hall of Fame drag racer, Johnny Rocca joined the fun once again this year bringing professional drag racing experience to our event! The entire broadcast crew came to help the cruise-in hit its target of raising as much money as possible to benefit Franklin Park, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Dept. CS Monroe Automotive students, Hamilton Elementary School, Tree of Life Food Pantry, and Purcelliville’s Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
It was great – from beginning to end - Cruisers brought their pride and joy to Franklin Park, found a spot in one of the ball fields and began to enjoy each others’ stories, while envying paint jobs, chrome wheels and fancy fixings! There were several vendors this year to delight every car owner’s curiosity. Just as importantly, there were several food vendors serving up everything from hamburgers to BBQ to funnel cakes, ice cream and kettle corn! It was a picnic!
Our special thanks to everyone for your generous donations. Once again, we bring the largest car party in the United States to a close, but only until 2011! See you there!
Will you come to our CAR PARTY next year? Here’s our challenge to you – come to Summer Thunder Cruise-In 2011 and bring everyone you know! Help us to double our car count and fill Franklin Park’s 5 ball fields! Think we can do it? It’s a plan – NO, NO, IT”S A PARTY!! Visit our website often for updates.
